which became known as the Vidalia OnionVidalia Onions were first shipped under
the Brand Brothers label, TROPHY.  Earlie Jordan and his wife, Cleatus, headed the
Toombs County Plant Corporation, which bought onions in Texas to plant in
Toombs County.  At harvest time, the Toombs County Plant Corporation teamed up
with Brand Brothers of Atlanta, GA, as shippers of the harvested onions.  Earlie Jordan
rented the majority of the old Vidalia State Farmers Market and packed the onions
there.  He personally went to the "Winter Garden" of Texas and brought back loads of
onion plants, not seeds, for farmers to plant.  The weeds were too bad in Georgia for seeds
to survive, and there was no herbicide then, so bringing back onion plants was the way
to ensure their survival.
Earlie Jordan kept the onion business going in Toombs County for years, before the huge
marketing today of the name "Vidalia Onion."
Read a bit about Earlie Jordan and the history of Vidalia Onions here.
