| John Ingram, his
wife Mary, and their children John, Jr., Richard, William, and |
| David, all sailed
to America from Belfast, Ireland on the ship Prince George. They |
| landed in
Savannah, Georgia in December of 1768. |
|
| In
1766, the General Assembly of Jefferson County, Georgia passed an act
which |
| encouraged
settlers to move into the area for a grant of 1,800 pounds sterling |
| each.
George Galphin and John Rae put advertisements in the newspapers |
| around
Ireland during 1766 telling people about the new country and the town
which |
| would
be developed. Most Irish people refused to leave their homeland
until their |
| passage
was to be paid and land laid out for them. Nearly one hundred
immigrants |
| arrived
on the ship Prince George in December of 1768. They helped
form the |
| township
of Queensboro. Click
