    | In
the late 1940's, Earlie Jordan introduced a special hybrid onion from
      Texas, |

    | which
became known as the Vidalia Onion.  Vidalia Onions
      were first shipped under |

    | the
Brand Brothers label, TROPHY.  Earlie Jordan and
his wife, Cleatus, headed the |

    | Toombs County Plant Corporation, which
      bought onions in
      Texas to plant in |

    | Toombs County.
At harvest time, the Toombs County
      Plant Corporation teamed
      up |

    | with Brand Brothers of Atlanta, GA, as shippers of the harvested
      onions.  Earlie Jordan |

    | rented the majority of the old Vidalia State Farmers Market and packed the
      onions |

    | there.
He personally went to the "Winter Garden" of Texas and brought
      back loads of |

    | onion
      plants,
not seeds, for farmers to plant.  The weeds were too bad in Georgia
      for seeds |

    | to
survive, and there was no herbicide then, so bringing back onion plants
      was the way |

    | to
      ensure
      their survival. |

    | Earlie
Jordan kept the onion business going in Toombs County for years, before
      the huge |

    | marketing
today of the name "Vidalia Onion." |

a bit about Earlie Jordan and the history of Vidalia Onions here. |
